Understanding Multi-Level Commissions

"Maddening, exhausting, and fascinating," That's how Mark finds multi-level network marketing— and has been doing so for nearly 30 years. MarkRawlins

Mark Rawlins has been managing network marketing software companies for almost 30 years, and is recognized as one of the pioneers and dominant leaders in the industry's software sector. Mark is considered the market expert on commission design and implementation. He is an innovator, entrepreneur, and a technical leader for computer systems. He has consulted with many network marketing companies, including Nikken International, Herbalife, Xango, Unicity, and ForeverGreen, and more.

Prior to founding InfoTrax Systems in 1998, a company focused on delivering a complete, integrated software platform for the direct selling industry, Rawlins spent 18 years in executive positions at 20/21 Software, Inc. He ultimately became the company's CEO. He and his team delivered early solutions for telephone-based order processing systems, credit card authorization and acceptance systems, and Internet-based order entry and distributor communication tools.

Mark's knowledge of commission plans comes from the inside: "I've worked in the middle of the fastest growing and fastest dying companies in the business," he says. "I've seen all kinds of growth patterns. As a consultant, I've even been given beds at client companies while we worked through many nights on some of the problems that come with exponential growth."

Rawlins has a unique perspective on the network marketing industry, which he finds, "maddening, exhausting, and fascinating": "I like the fun and excitement of network marketing companies. I enjoy watching the operations, even the details—like seeing the checks being printed. I like writing software that solves the problems I see cropping up. I enjoy having a hand in finding and conquering all kinds of mistakes in setting up commission plans.
